FERNANDO REY and CHARO portray Alejandro and Madame Loop, the valet and maid for the dictator of Parador.
Moon Over Parador is a 1988 American romantic comedy film directed by Paul Mazursky, co‑written with Leon Capetanos. It is a loose remake of the 1939 film The Magnificent Fraud, based in turn on the short story “Caviar for His Excellency” by Charles G. Booth. The plot centers on Jack Noah (Richard Dreyfuss), a struggling actor who is asked to impersonate the recently deceased dictator Alfonse Simms of the fictional country of Parador. As the impersonation continues, Jack gradually becomes aware of the suffering of the people under the regime, and he must navigate between the demands of power, illusion, and morality.
The film was shot largely in Brazil and New York, with a sizeable ensemble cast including Raul Julia, Sônia Braga, Jonathan Winters, Fernando Rey, among others
Charo appears in Moon Over Parador in the role of Madame Lupe (or “Madame Loop” in some credits) as a maid in the household of the dictator Simms. In one review, she is listed among the “supporting shots in the arm” alongside other character actors. Her appearance is part of the large supporting cast that contributes to the film’s portrayal of life in and around the palace, helping to flesh out the world Jack Noah steps into during his impersonation of the deceased dictator.
