The Concorde… Airport ‘79 is the fourth and final installment in Universal’s Airport film series, which began with Airport (1970), followed by Airport 1975 (1974) and Airport ’77 (1977). The series was built around the disaster movie genre set primarily in aviation, often dealing with crises aboard passenger aircraft. In Airport ’79, the focus shifts to the supersonic Concorde aircraft: the plot involves a reporter, Maggie Whelan (Susan Blakely), uncovering illegal arms sales by her boyfriend, Kevin Harrison (Robert Wagner). To prevent exposure, Harrison plots to bring down the Concorde while Maggie is aboard. The airplane’s flight is threatened by sabotage, missile attacks, and technical device failures. Pilots Paul Metrand (Alain Delon) and Joe Patroni (George Kennedy — the only actor to appear in all four films) are central in responding to each threat to keep the Concorde aloft and complete its route via Paris and Moscow.
The film assembled an ensemble cast described as “all‑star,” including Alain Delon, Sylvia Kristel, Robert Wagner, Eddie Albert, Bibi Andersson, Martha Raye, Cicely Tyson, Jimmie Walker, David Warner, Mercedes McCambridge, and Charo.
In the film, her character, Margarita, appears briefly: she tries to smuggle a chihuahua aboard the Concorde but is discovered by the purser, Isabelle (Sylvia Kristel), and is escorted off the aircraft.
Charo appears in The Concorde... Airport '79.
